Part 8 - Dead Horse Point State Park
Dead Horse Point State Park is located on the Colorado River, between Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.
Dead Horse Point is the point of land just above the center of this photo. The Colorado River flows from the left, then curves toward the foreground and back into the distance on the right. The point of land, almost surrounded by the river here, is connected to the other high land in the distance by a narrow neck only 30 yards wide. According to legend cowboys would round up wild mustangs, herd them onto the point, and then fence them in with branches and brush at the narrowest point.

Two solar evaporation ponds are located to the east of the overlook. They're used by Intrepid Potash, Inc., to recover potassium chloride from underground, for use in plant fertilizer.
